[33] inaction is a weapon of mass destruction

[Action I. Outside of the ruins of 1338 Benny Road.]

[The Doctor jerks awake with a groan. The first thing he notices is that everything hurts. And more than usual. He brushes a hand to his throbbing head and his fingers come back bloody. Probably hit his head, that explains some of the pain. He can still feel his two hearts pounding in his ( Read more... )

[Elsa saw the sign, and she's managed to catch up with him just in time to watch him lick something he picked up off the ground. Looks like he's still weird, even after having moved out.]

Stop that, you'll make yourself sick licking random things like you're doing.

Why would I do a silly thing like make myself sick? I don't like being sick.

Then why are you licking things that are probably covered in radiation?

[ If it helps at all, a wild Rory will be appearing at the point in town about halfway between his house and Amy's, sleeves rolled up and toting what could be salvaged of the first aid kit he'd been putting together. Worse for wear and missing a few parts, but the bandages are clean and that's as good a start as any. Rory himself isn't injured as opposed to being on the dirty and slightly roughed-up side; it's one of those things that happens when you keep going off-road to check on bodies that aren't obviously gone beyond hope. Probably something the Doctor has become well-acquainted with today.

He's doing his best to check for pulses quickly without making any mistakes-- he really needs to get to Amy right now, and he's well aware of that, but at the same time he can't bring himself to pass people up. He's kind of holding out hope that she'll be walking this particular path already, really. Or any path- that's the best thing he can hope for, because she's Amy and there are very few reasons that could make her stay put on a day like ( ... )

Rory! Glad to see you're all in one piece!

...I'm a bit surprised, honestly.

[and here comes Charles, seeming to be relatively unharmed! he's got a few things slung over his shoulder already; a small bag of salvaged foods from the market, several twisted but usable pieces of metal, a battered knife.

he quietly waits and watches the Doctor write his note, only speaking up once it's finished.]

Is that a wise idea?

[The Doctor jumps at the voice, winces, then spins around.]

Why? What's wrong with it? I thought it was a rather nice and polite note.

[his hands are crossed over his chest, leaving him to point with his boot toe at the words big nasty cloud thing.]

Nice and polite it may be, but gathering a group of people and heading to an ominous shape in the distance doesn't seem the brightest idea.

That's where everyone else is going, isn't it? Only place to go.

[Edward's just leaving the house---or what's left of it, anyway. Thankfully, his underground fortress hasn't been too badly damaged by whatever just hit them. He's still got his trick cane in hand---should he find himself in any danger, he'll be able to defend himself properly. Not even one step out of his front door, though, he'll run into the Doctor writing his note.]

You intend to lead an investigation?

[The Doctor grins.]

Yes, an investigation! Let's call it that. That's a good thing to call it.

As opposed to what? Suicide?

[Though Edward can't deny he's got plenty of questions about all this madness. Damned compulsions.]

Everyone heading towards the big obvious cloud of death that's appeared because it's the only thing left to do?

You're right. Investigation does sound better.

Haven't quite figured it out yet. Perhaps we're witnessing another version of reality. Or we've warped forward in time.
