Thursday Thirteen, #164

Saturday, September 27th is the start of Banned Books Week. I checked out a couple lists of frequently banned and challenged books, and realized I've read quite a few. Lauren has also read a few, and I plan to let her read more. Banning books is ridiculous. If someone doesn't want his or her child exposed to a certain book, then take ( Read more... )

I couldn't agree with you more about banned books. Junie B. Jones made a banned book list?! I guess the same people must have been offended by the Captain Underpants books too.

I believe these people are crazy. I have read a lot of the books on the list I keep seeing all over the place and it's stupid.

Yup, I said it. Usually I don't use that word but come on now. Junie B. Jones is a wonderful series that keeps the kids wanting to read more.

Like you I will keep offering those books to my children. Their mine and I can do with their mind what I think is right.

Crazy is a good word in this instance! You just have to wonder - these people used to be kids themselves, right? So what happened to twist their brains so badly?

These were my FAVORITE books: Go Ask Alice, Deenie, Forever and Are you There God? LOVE THEM. I haven't thought about those books in so long! Great list.

Yeah, poor Judy Blume was whammied quite a bit. She was my favorite author when I was a kid. I learned a LOT from Forever - probably why it's a banned book!

Oh my! My kids love Judy Blume, and I have every intention of making sure her books are always available to them. We own quite a few and will probably have the rest by Christmas. Have the whole set of Harry Potter books too. And my youngest recently developed a fascination with Captain Underpants, which I enthusiastically encourage.

The whole book censorship thing is ridiculous. Essentially, people are saying they have the right to decide what MY kids should read. NUH-UH.

Those are some really great books! I've read most of them. Poor Judy Blume; so many of her books are banned.

I just did my first Thursday Thirteen over at ourlittlemonkeys.net
