I looked in the tags and memories but this didn't show up at all, so here we go. Hopefully this is okay!

My husband got me a food processor for Christmas. It does not have a dough blade (he almost got me one with that but changed his mind). It's an Oster. It is still in its box as I don't have room in my cupboards to store it just yet, but I want ( Read more... )

I use my food processor for things like: making hummus, pesto, salsa, tomato sauce, etc. It is nice when you need to julienne or slice a lot of veggies. I also use mine for making nut butters, but not sure how an Oster would handle that.

Ooh, slicing veggies would be helpful when I'm making soup or the casserole I made tonight. I haven't made my own nut butter; maybe I will try it!

If it has a slicing attachment that's great for thinly sliced anything (like potatoes for au gratin)

I will have to check what attachments it has. That would probably be great!

I also have a mini food processor as well as a larger one. The small one is good for small batches of pesto etc, but I use the large one a lot too. Just the other day I used it to make veggie burgers: www.amuse-your-bouche.com/nutty-pumpkin-seed-baked-veggie-burgers

I think I'll have to experiment with it and see what the big one is best for in my life. It's interesting how much you can do besides just chopping stuff up.

Thanks for the link! That was a really helpful thing to read. I just need a stand mixer and I will have a fully equipped kitchen! ;)

I use my Cusinart for chopping, slicing large quantities of veggies, things like hummus, cookies, pasty, soups and prep for stews, meat loaves etc. I bought it second hand for $30 in 1994. The key to using a food processor is the power of the machine IMO. Mine has a heavy duty motor. I've used less powerful food processors and found it frustrating having to stop and change to chopping etc by hand. Please check the Oster reviews before you open the boxing may be that you would be better off exchanging it for a different model.

Thanks for the tips, I've read some reviews but I'll be sure to read through the complaints just to be sure. I'll also check the motor specs on the model he got me, to make sure it's powerful and all.
