My job has presented me with a bit of a challenge food wise, but I figure this community may be the one to help me solve it. During the day I spend a lot of time driving from one place to another, and often end up eating a quick lunch sitting in my car between appointments. Having gotten sick of sandwiches, I'm looking for other types of food that ( Read more... )

Have you tried salad in a mason jar? There's a method to the way you layer it so nothing gets soggy. There's stuff all over Pinterest! :)

Cold pasta salad

hummus
baba ganoush
soups/chili
cold sliced meat (roast beef, chicken, turkey, ham, etc.)

The Mr. Bento jar thingy is particularly useful if you need food for maybe several meals and snacks.

Wraps (endless variety there), fruit salads, pasta salad, salads (can mean a lot like potato or whatever you enjoy in a bowl), soups/stew, bagels, tinned tuna (those fancy flavoured ones), muffins (can be full of seeds/nuts/fruit).
It depends what you can make/have time to make at home aswell. You could create like a 'pizza pinwheel' so a roll with veggies/flavours you like. Or make some sausage/veggie rolls at home which taste just as good cold.

It's a pity you don't enjoy vegetables. My cheat meals at home are just cut up carrots, mushrooms, capsicum and celery.
I tend to eat just fruit at work or sneak to the bakery for a spinach roll on bad long days so I'm not overly creative.

I hadn't thought of fruit salads or muffins, but those would be perfect (especially as we head into summer). Thanks for the suggestions!

Are you in the US? I've spent many years working on the road and had the same issue with food. If there are 7-11s in your area, they are generally fine letting you use their microwave for your own food if you buy a bottle of water or some gum or something. I used to pack lean cuisines from time to time, and it was a nice break from endless sammiches.

I also enjoy leftover chili when it's cold. It's a great thing to dip tortilla chips into.

Sadly no 7-11's, but I'll look and see if other big gas stations around here will do the same. And chili and tortilla chips sound great. Thanks for sharing!
