CHRISTMAS EVE DINNER

In past years - nine of them - we've had planned Christmas Eve dinners (last year I cooked oysters) and dinners made of leftovers (one year chili + spaghetti). We don't have a traditional dinner or even a plan for the evening - a few years we have gone to church services (at my suggestion); most years it's just us. Fish/seafood is a traditional Christmas Eve dinner. The Feast of the Seven Fishes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feast_of_the_Seven_Fishes is big in the Italian American community. We aren't Italian but some years I do a full Italian dinner for Christmas and some years I do seafood for Christmas Eve and a traditional Christmas Dinner. I think this year I am going to do a shrimp and lobster alfredo and a salad for Christmas Eve.

We have a potluck buffet where the dishes change every year. No particular theme. My SIL who who hosts it will tell you what kind of dish she needs (I always get dessert) and will ask you to amend it if somebody else is bringing something similar. A theme would be nice -- I'm going to actually suggest that to her.

We do pizza on Christmas Eve. This dates back to when I was a kid and my mom was in charge of the church Christmas concert which was held on Christmas Eve. So to make things less stressful on my mom we would have pizza for supper. Even after the concert date got changed and my mom was no longer in charge, we kept up the tradtion and now that I have my own family I still say that Christmas Eve supper is pizza.

I hate to ask but do you have a recipe for boerek? Would you mind sharing? I know some people don't like to give out family recipes. My husband is Armenian and I bet he would love it if I threw an Armenian recipe into our mix for dinner. Thanks.
