Mixer-free mashed potatoes?

My beloved (33 year old Oster) stand mixer died the final death last week. Naturally my brain immediately said "KitchenAid!" But I'm pondering. What do I actually use it for, and is there anything I can't make very nearly as easily without a stand mixer? Brownies and banana bread have been find with hand whisks and spoons. i use a potato masher utensil but a spoon and fork would work too. i think it depends what consistency of mashed potato you want

I just use a regular hand masher. If the potatoes are boiled to the right consistency, and you add the correct amount of liquid, they come out nice and creamy.

I think it depends on how you like your mashed potatoes. I use a hand masher because we like ours a little lumpy. Now if you want more of a smoother mash I would go with a ricer. I used my KitchenAid only ONCE to make mashed potatoes and they were over mashed IMO.
