My beloved (33 year old Oster) stand mixer died the final death last week. Naturally my brain immediately said "KitchenAid!" But I'm pondering. What do I actually use it for, and is there anything I can't make very nearly as easily without a stand mixer? Brownies and banana bread have been find with hand whisks and spoons. Tonight I hit a sticking point-- mashed potatoes!
If you don't use a stand mixer to make from-scratch mashed potatoes, what do you use, and how do you like it? Hand smasher? Ricer? Something else?
