Go to a local Goodwill and pick up a used Swing-a-way model. It will last forever.

yeah, spend decently. my mom got one from pampered chef...the one that slices around the lip of the can so you don't get any sharp edges...and i stole it from her a few years ago and use it tons! it even has teeth on the side so you can (like tweezers/pliers) grab on to the lid and open it with out getting messy hands...

and then i got an oxo one..same one...at my bridal shower sunday and it does the same thing..

but i still use the other type of opener when i need to either squeeze liquid out of the can (as in, my cans of tuna fish) or i need the lid to swing so i can easily use it to strain the liquid (like in beans)

I use to use the swing-away brand but they are hard to find. The last can opener cost more than you can get a Big Lots. You get way you pay for. I can't remember the brand at the moment but I bought it at a Kroger's store. Oxo have a good line of products too.

Yeah, they're very low quality. I had exactly the same problem, and was replacing them regularly. I finally broke down and got the locking Zyliss. Last I ever bought, still going strong.

I've had a Swing-A-Way manual can opener now for about ten years. I got it from my mom, who had used it for about thirty years prior.

A kitchen is only as good as the tools you have in it!
