Uses for Aioli

Okay, so over the weekend I got some very tasty Basil Lemon Aioli and Smoked Paprika Aioli. The downside is that I have no idea what to do with them! I know they're mayo based, so I figured I could use them as some kind of sandwich spread but there has to be other stuff I can do with them, right? Can I use them in place of where I would use mayo in ( Read more... )

I've seen lemon basil aioli served with fish as an upscale substitute for tartar sauce.

This. I like to dip things in it.

This. Patatas Bravas are traditionally served with an aioli. I think the smoked paprika one would be especially good. :)

I don't know about using it in place of mayonnaise in a recipe, but tbh I don't think I'd want to since the flavour is likely to be missed - with something as yummy as these, I'd just use them as a dip :)

Aioli is a sauce made from garlic, eggs and oil turned into an emulsion very similar to mayo (so it's not "mayo-based", but it's essentially the same ingredients with the inclusion of a few more - though some people will attempt a cheaters aioli by basically thinning down mayo).

Yes, you can use it like you would mayo.

Some uses:
Sandwich spread
dip for fries
spooned over roasted or grilled vegetables (carrots, zucchini, asparagus)
sauce for fish (especially salmon) or crabcakes
dip for fried seafood (clams, calamari, fish)
dressing for a pasta salad
sauce for grilled meats (chicken, flank steak)

I'd try them as a dip served with steamed artichokes. I always serve mine with aoli.
