Freeze for Later Resources

I'm looking for more resources on foods that you prep and freeze for later. Whether it's adapting dishes you usually make into freeze for later or foods explicitly made for that. I'd also like things on defrosting safely and properly. I've read all the posts here and it's helpful, but I'm looking for more. (I know that these may seem like ( Read more... )

I'm trying to do something similar, because my fiance works & there's not always leftovers for him to take to work.
One thing I found just recently is curry - any curry that doesn't have potatoes would freeze nicely. I have containers that I found at the dollar store, they're rectangular, & perfect for a serving of rice & curry. It freezes beautifully!

Freezing cookie dough so you can bake a few at a time is something I've been planning on doing (I've just been busy :P)

Yeah, I figure I should do that for cookies. Cookies are some of my least favorite things to cook because I usually cook them all at once.

I make tons of chicken and buy a lot of it and store it, so I like the idea of marinating it before I freeze it. I also make meatloaf once in awhile. Thank you for this!

It's a good idea; pork in marinade or even a tangy BBQ sauce works well too, and even putting the herbs and garlic on the meat before freezing really helps the flavor permeate as it thaws,so when I'm grilling chicken or pork I usually put a few portions in ziploc bags for the freezer. Then I slice up a potato, a little onions and some other veg (frozen green beans work well) onto a greased piece of foil, put the meat on top with marinade and wrap everything up in a tight package to bake. It comes out very flavorful, and super easy.

oh- make balls or rolls of your cookie dough so you can get just the # of pieces you want easily, and freeze the meat loaf wrapped in plastic in the pan, then take the pan away. That way the meatloaf is preformed- you can just unwrap it and drop it straight in the pan to thaw.

That's a neat tip!

I'd like to can/dry/pickle, but that's a hobby I'm not sure I'm happy about, since it seems like if I mess up one thing, it kills the family.
