cheddar bay biscuit help

There are several recipes floating around in the intertubes for copies of Red Lobster's biscuits. My wife and I have tried several, and none of them seem to get the texture or the top flavoring quite right. Have any of you ever gotten them to taste/feel IDENTICAL to the ones Red Lobster has? I have decided never to go there again for dinner ( Read more... )

recipe: copycat, bread: biscuit

The closest one I've ever tried involved Bisquick, milk, and cheddar cheese, topped with a mix of melted butter & garlic powder.

However, I haven't eaten at a Red Lobster in years (for, uh, reasons similar to the one you listed), so I honestly can't tell you how exact they are. They're close enough for me =D

That's one we've tried before. The texture was a bit more dense than normal and the tops needed salt. They were kind of tasty, but not quite right.

Have you tried Lawry's Garlic Salt for the tops? That's what I always assumed it was. My brother works for RL, so I can try and pump him for info. lol

oh, that makes more sense. I was imagining a shrimp scuttling off the plate and out the door.

I haven't had Red Lobster's biscuits in years, but my current favorite recipe is the Biscuits Supreme recipe in the Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook (the drop biscuit variety). I add a bunch of garlic powder (probably close to 1/4 cup - yeah, it sounds like a lot, but is good) and shredded cheese. I also have varied the green seasonings a bit, but Penzey's Bavarian seasoning seems to be the best (www.penzeys.com). And yeah, brush with a bit of garlic butter on top.

I don't know from Red Lobster - but this recipe is the YUM. I have a few more cheesy biscuit recipes if you are interested...

Cheddar Cheese Scones

2 1/4 cups self rising flour
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 cup minced fresh chives
1 cup (packed) coarsely shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
3/4 cup milk
2 large eggs (divided)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
Sesame seeds

Whisk first 3 ingredients in large bowl. Stir in chives and cheese.
Whisk milk, one egg, oil, mustard in separate bowl and gradually add to dry ingredients, tossing until moist clumps form - you can add a little more milk if dough is dry.

Turn dough out into flowered surface; knead just until dough comes together.

Pat dough into 1 inch thick round. Using 2 1/2 inch diameter cutter, cut out scones . Gather dough scraps and repeat. Transfer to baking sheet.

Whisk remaining egg in small cup; brush over scones, sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Cook at 425 degrees for 14 minutes. They’ll be golden on top.

This is the recipe I use and I think its really close. The only difference I think is there may be butter in the biscuits and not just on top. I went there just recently and made this recipe within a few days.
