cheddar bay biscuit help

There are several recipes floating around in the intertubes for copies of Red Lobster's biscuits. My wife and I have tried several, and none of them seem to get the texture or the top flavoring quite right. Have any of you ever gotten them to taste/feel IDENTICAL to the ones Red Lobster has? I have decided never to go there again for dinner ( Read more... )

recipe: copycat, bread: biscuit

The closest one I've ever tried involved Bisquick, milk, and cheddar cheese, topped with a mix of melted butter & garlic powder.

However, I haven't eaten at a Red Lobster in years (for, uh, reasons similar to the one you listed), so I honestly can't tell you how exact they are. They're close enough for me =D

That's one we've tried before. The texture was a bit more dense than normal and the tops needed salt. They were kind of tasty, but not quite right.

Have you tried Lawry's Garlic Salt for the tops? That's what I always assumed it was. My brother works for RL, so I can try and pump him for info. lol

That's the recipe we always used too. They came out pretty darned close.

Bisquick actually has a premade mix of that. I've made them a few times. Sprinkle with chives and salt and they actually come out close enough to solve cravings. They come out really soft and fluffy.

This is the one I've tried too, but I use this homemade bisquick mix recipe with lard instead of shortening. Lard will make it nice and flaky, which is why pie makers swear by it. Make sure to start with cold ingredients and cut them in properly with a pastry cutter.

Looking at the recipe, I see that it says low-fat milk, low-fat cheese, and margarine are okay. I wouldn't use them. Go for full fat buttermilk, maybe a touch of heavy cream, the best cheddar you can get, and butter. And fresh parsley.

Mmm.....I kind of want to make some now.
