Electric Cookers

All knowing Cooking community, I turn to you for help!

I am about to move into an unfurnished rental property that comes without any white goods.  The property is without gas, (and if it were mine I'd install bottled!) So I must buy myself an electric cooker.  I've never had an electric cooker before so I have no idea what it is I need to be ( Read more... )

I've only cooked with electric, so I wouldn't be able to really compare, though this talk of gas ranges makes them sound so fancy n stuff ( ... )

I've used both and I can see the pros and cons.

Personally, I like electric which is what I use now. There is definitely a learning curve, after two years my previous roommate would still accidentally bubble things over too often.

I do recommend having a decent pot and pan to use on electric. Some friends disagree with me, but my mom and I think that electric gets hotter than gas. She used to get a great sear on her steaks at my house than at my sister's house (which is gas) - granted, maybe it's more because I have nicer pans.

Cleaning is not that hard at all. Just don't accidentally get a lot of water in the coil socket. A friend of mine has a flat ceramic top, she seems to really like it. Easier clean up for sure.
