This is a really cool idea. I love the idea of a savory "cupfake".

Sounds really cool but . . . one CUP sugar? Is that correct? I could understand one tablespoon, but a CUP?

You read it right! They're a sort of "sweet" cheddar biscuit... kind of the same idea as a sweet cornbread. They don't come out too sweet for me, but if you're not a sweet cornbread person or someone who likes jam on biscuits and such, you may want to cut down on the sugar. Or consider using another cheddar biscuit as a base.

Crazy. Sweet biscuits aren't really my thing, that's why I was so surprised.

Well, there's a lot of debate about what makes a cupcake a cupcake and not a muffin. There are plenty of sweet muffins (think banana nut, cherry, apple, blueberry). I think the general consensus is the texture of the cake (i.e. the "crumb," and if it's cakey or bready) and the presence or absence of frosting determines whether something is a cupcake or a muffin.
