I also use a frother wand, but found one for VERY cheap (like 5 bucks) at IKEA and my lattes now turn out great, as a result. If you live near an Ikea, I highly recommend their frother.

I recently found the Tazo Chai Concentrate at Walmart for under five bucks so I've been making myself Chai Lattes at home. I just take a mug of milk/concentrate and micro it for 2-2:30 minutes. It's so yummy and much cheaper than Starbucks.

yeah just heat it to 160F in the nuker and use a cheap little frother for the, uh, froth. Unless your espresso machine (if you have one) is super high pressure (ie expensive and fancy) it takes a while to froth it with the steam wand to a hot temp. The cheaper, just as good way is to use a simple stovetop espresso maker, the microwave, and a froth wand. Ta da, $15. I got my stovetop maker at ikea for $3, though have seen them at Ross for ~$6. Frother picked up on a whim at a Tuesday Morning for $5. That leaves the beans, get whole bean espresso or french roast, grind yourself to fairly fine and you're in business.
