And I agree, I can ship Neal and Peter, but I can also appreciate them having a father/son dynamic. They're great together either way! And I don't have a problem with the father/son dynamic being the one that's more explicitly canon. Most of my ships are non-canon, and I don't mind working with multiple interpretations of relationships.
Personally, I really like that the James story line has increased Neal's appreciation of Peter as a father figure.
