Yay, I've bought my tickets for opening weekend of The Hobbit. We are going to see it in 2D and in HFR3D, at Arclight and at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The flood of marketing, merch, teasers, etc., continues to build... this week notably brought previews of some of the music, yet even more new images, the Denny's behind-the-scenes featurette, etc. ( Read more... )

Well, I must be on a lucky streak. I went down to the Pantages again to try to win more lottery tickets to Book of Mormon and again won two tickets ($25 each). This time the tickets were front row, center... must be worth quite a bit since back of the theatre is going for over $200. Pleasant week of lunches with friends, mah jongg, and a shorts film festival. And so it goes. I am always so impressed with the shorts that I see at festivals... it frustrates me that there is rarely another way to see a short film after it makes its brief appearance. Saw The Dark Knight Rises last night and was underwhelmed. I really liked the last Batman film, and was expecting more from this one than it delivered. It's a real waste of Tom Hardy, it's too long, and there are quite a few moments that induced eye-rolling. Before the film I saw a live performance of the musical Jekyll and Hyde.
