Quotes of the Day

I am having a day of semi-amusement. So I'm going to share some quotes from my day. Just little things.

First off, started a new book today. Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie. On the first page of chapter two, in which the main characters have started to form their band and are having public rehersals on the reservation, I read this quote ( Read more... )

The Unquiet Dead is the episode that got my mom hooked. She said roughly the same thing as your friend's husband. lol I <3 this show!

I was telling my friend in her post about it...I don't know WHAT I was thinking when I first watched Unquiet Dead, but it wasn't that! It was my first day of Doctor Who. My best friend warned me to expect a little cheesiness. And I was like, "Okay. Shop Window Dummies. Right. Alien Trees. Okay. A Charles Dickens Ghost Story." And I was intruiged, but I wasn't hooked yet. I think Father's Day hooked me. The raw emotion in that eppy is just fantastic.

Now if I had a twisted enough brain to walk in and go, "Charles Dickens and Zombies! AWESOME!" I probably would have been hooked a lot faster. *sigh* If only.

It is the best fandom ever. It's pure suspense of disbelief, but once you hit that point with it where you'll pretty much accept anything, it's like, "All right. I'm in love!"

I had largely the same reaction that you did. I had no clue what was going on for the first few episodes, but I was certainly intrigued. I loved The Unquiet Dead (I have a thing for Dickens) and then Father's Day just completely ripped my heart out.

My dad died when I was young, and he was alone when he died, which has always bothered me. So to see Rose go back in time to see her dad, and to be there when he passed away...I connected with that very powerfully. I think that's always going to be a really special episode for me. It's sort of healing in a way, which, to me, is the sign of great story-telling. I could see myself as Rose, and Billie's acting in that episode was just so emotionally spot-on. It wasn't just that I knew how Rose was feeling, there was an almost palpable sense of feeling what Rose was experiencing in that moment. If that makes any sense. (Might not, as I have a cold and the medicine has made my head a bit wonky tonight. lol)

Okay, yeah, I can definitely see why Father's Day would hit you hard. I mean, it pretty much tears anyone with a heart apart, it's that powerfully written, but then to have actually lived through similar experiences? I can't imagine watching it from that perspective. It must be super-intense.

(And don't worry, you made perfect sense there).
