This...was decidedly not what he'd been expecting to happen. One minute, he'd been in his own world, worn but relieved that his fight was finally over -- that he hadn't failed at the role Vash had requested that he fill -- only to find himself in an unfamiliar place where he was expected to fight for a cause he didn't believe in. At first, he hadn't believed it. It had seemed too fantastic to be true; honestly, it seemed even more so right now, considering who he was about to meet.

He shouldn't be this jumpy. He didn't look it, of course, but he felt it. How was he supposed to deal with this? The last time they'd seen each other, both of them were fighting for their lives. Even the time after the battle was over didn't really count. It had been so brief, and Livio had been exhausted. He'd fallen asleep, only to wake up and be told the only one who'd bothered to believe in him since he was a child was gone. Killed, by his own hand.

There was no way this couldn't be awkward. He managed to keep from fidgeting somehow, though, ( ... )

Wolfwood honestly didn't know what to expect outside the barracks. He had been here only for two days, and it was a weird two days for him, but having his childhood friend here of all places would likely top the list. It made about as much sense as being brought back from the dead. Thus, it was with a dubious heart that he went to the meeting ( ... )

... Well, that certainly wasn't the response he was expecting. Although the laughter was really sort of grating (especially considering where these articles had come from), in a way, it was better than awkward looks or some shit like that.

That didn't mean he couldn't be exasperated, though.

"Nice to see you, too."

It took several long guffaws before Wolfwood could finally regain a modicum of seriousness, but it was enough. The awkward status quo broke and the two were, at least temporarily, on a more comfortable level. Again, Wolfwood looked his childhood friend over, and this time he managed to retain his straight face.

"I see yer lookin' good."

Silence.

Perhaps that relief of broken ice short lived after all.

Before the silence could stretch on for too long, Wolfwood jerked a thumb to his right. "Let's get a drink. I think I can use one myself." They had a lot of talking to do. A lot.
