"All right, I *am* the Messiah! Now, f*** off!"

After the Asperger's post yesterday I got thinking about this interview, which actually features extended footage of Michael Palin avoiding eye contact with someone he's ostensibly talking to. There are extenuating factors, mind you: this is the interview that was supposed to be a "debate" about Life Of Brian, with Palin and Cleese representing the ( Read more... )

Gadzooks! I remember this! Well, I remember watching it. I was probably watching old footage. Thanks! This made my morning.

At some point in the eighties I had a book about the movie, including different versions of the script for some scenes. No idea what happened to it, sadly.

I find myself getting all irate on the Pythons' behalf when the bishop snaps his fingers at them. I don't know how Cleese remained so calm.

I have a theory about such things--people who are SURE of what they're saying don't get angry when idiots try to derail them. It's the idiots spouting stuff they can't back up that get angrier and angrier...like snapping fingers and such. ;)

Retreating into contempt and condescension is another sign of a poor debater.

I do wonder what would have happened if it had been Cleese and Jones there instead of Cleese and Palin. That might have turned out very funny indeed.

Yeah, that's not an Aspie avoiding eye-contact, that's a man desperately trying not to to swear at the Bishop of Southwark while live on national television.

Or strangle. I'm almost certain he's imagining strangling as well. The problem with losing your temper very rarely is, when it happens you might not be able to stop.

I ordered Palin's first diary off Amazon and it's waiting for me at the post office. I cannot WAIT to read his account of this debate. I wonder how long it took him to stop shaking and cursing afterward?

Oh totally. I mean, in work, K or I will crack up quite regularly. About a week back, SP completely, totally lost the rag and scared everyone witless because we thought he might actually go for the culprit (who would have richly deserved it, but besides the point).

Aaaa. Probably a long time and copious application of alcohol. That kind of dismissive attitude annoys me so much it takes me hours to stop shaking from rage afterwards.

My poor dear sister sometimes has to hear all about it afterward. (I lived in Texas for a few years, right around the time Bush II was elected. When I came home it was a family game to get me started ranting about the Republicans. It was MONTHS before I could mention the R-word without shouting and cursing and getting all red in the face. Might have been more peaceful if I drank!)
