Location: Empty classroom on second floor.

Rating: PG-13, I think.

Summary: Hope's birthday! Enough said. :3

Whenever Hope came down, he'd see Lightning leaning against the wall just watching the people in the area and glancing at her watch every now and again, waiting patiently for him to come downstairs without a word.

Hope had put on a fresh set of clothes, washed up nicely and brushed his wispy hair. He took a few steps down towards the party and saw Lightning. He hurried down the stairs, desperate not to trip on himself.

"Hey Lightning! I'm ready! He said, looking up at her.

Lightning turned at the sound of Hope's voice and smiled faintly, pushing off from the wall as he hit the lower level of the steps. He certainly cleaned up well. Now it was just time to put the plan into motion.

"Then we'd better get going. You don't want Snow to eat all the food at the restaurant, do you?"

She said that with a light tone, then stopped suddenly, acting surprised.

"I just remembered I left something upstairs. Do you mind coming with me to get it? It shouldn't take long."

You may think that Hope would be suspicious of this... 'Lightning forgetting something' nonsense but actually he trusts her with all his might and will quite happily go along with this plan. Hope follows after her, as she strides towards her room.

"What did you forget?" He asked, his smile sweet and small. "'Cause I kind of don't want Snow to eat all the food. Could you imagine trying to bring him home after he ate too much?" he laughed, imagining them both struggling to lift the six foot seven giant out of a chair.

And now, the meat of the night's "course", as it were. Time to knock Hope's socks off when all he's probably expecting is a simple dinner with his family.

Fang had to admit that the classroom didn't look half bad for how little notice they'd had. They'd gotten a string of lanterns from the Garden Festival Committee, who were apparently also the Unofficial Random Decorations Committee, and earlier she'd snuck out onto Fisherman's Horizon and gotten what was apparently more traditional in birthday decorations - a few balloons, a couple of streamers, and a random Moomba doll that was sitting on the desk chair. It wasn't really like any birthday decorating she'd ever seen, but whatever. She certainly wasn't about to argue ( ... )

Of course they shushed it, Fang! Turning the lights off is traditional!

Snow had hidden behind the door, by virtue of being too damn tall to hide anywhere freaking else in the room. So when the lights go on, he stepped around it, grinning as he joined in the chorus of "Surprise! Happy birthday!"

Hope's face was the picture of surprise when the lights went up. He beamed at his friends and though his body language was quite confused you could tell this was the happiest he had been in a long time.

"Thanks guys!" He called back once they'd all settled down again. His smile brightened again as he took in the decorations, the people and the food he could smell.
