Location: Empty classroom on second floor.

And now, the meat of the night's "course", as it were. Time to knock Hope's socks off when all he's probably expecting is a simple dinner with his family.

Fang had to admit that the classroom didn't look half bad for how little notice they'd had. They'd gotten a string of lanterns from the Garden Festival Committee, who were apparently also the Unofficial Random Decorations Committee, and earlier she'd snuck out onto Fisherman's Horizon and gotten what was apparently more traditional in birthday decorations - a few balloons, a couple of streamers, and a random Moomba doll that was sitting on the desk chair. It wasn't really like any birthday decorating she'd ever seen, but whatever. She certainly wasn't about to argue

Of course they shushed it, Fang! Turning the lights off is traditional!

Snow had hidden behind the door, by virtue of being too damn tall to hide anywhere freaking else in the room. So when the lights go on, he stepped around it, grinning as he joined in the chorus of "Surprise! Happy birthday!"

Hope's face was the picture of surprise when the lights went up. He beamed at his friends and though his body language was quite confused you could tell this was the happiest he had been in a long time.

"Thanks guys!" He called back once they'd all settled down again. His smile brightened again as he took in the decorations, the people and the food he could smell.

Sazh moved from behind the desk he had just jumped out of as he yelled. He made his way over to Hope, making a mental note to do something like this for Dajh sometime.

He gave Hope a friendly pat on the back as he smiled down at him. "Happy birthday, kid. Make sure you have fun now, all right?"

The lights had gone on, and Vanille had sprung out from her own hiding place, running across the room almost immediately to deliver unto Hope the most cheerful of birthday hugs she could manage.

"Happy Birthday, Hope!"

With just about everyone else having sprung the surprise or come over to give Hope their own birthday greetings, it was probably no surprise that, once the others had retreated, Lightning came over to put a hand on his shoulder, smiling fondly.

"Happy birthday."

"I couldn't get any chocobos to do a festive dance for you," Snow said, half-sitting on a desk with a grin. "But I figure the sentiment's there."
