We're just home from a lovely few days with Dirk's folks down near St. Louis.  His mom did a beautiful and tasty traditional spread; I contributed an apple pie.  As a point of reference, I'd say one of my most exciting pieces of news from all this is the following:  if you cook brussels sprouts in bacon fat, simmer in broth, and add the bacon
