I have a friend who studied to be an actuary, he works for an insurance company now. I think he's allright, although he bothers me sometimes. Emilie can't STAND him, he's one of her least favorite people on the planet.
Actually it isn't necessarily the actuaries who set the rates... typically they have Product Managers that are in charge of working with Actuaries to determine the rates. And given the difference in the areas based on many factors (some of which I happen to know since I used to be in the PM Dept at an Auto Insurance Company) I can easily see your insurance going back down when you move - it makes perfect sense and is reasonable and realistic...
I know that isnt' what you wanted to hear...
so - just for you - Insurance Companies Suck and are Stupid.
heh heh... about 30 seconds after I posted this, I thought, 'Damn, Cyndi knows all about this stuff! I shoulda called her..' then I figured you'd probably read this and set me right...
even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear... :-) I mean, I understand the principles behind it all, but wowser! plus I know that college park is not the nicest area of atlanta... *sigh*
but, I do agree with your final statement!! except, of course, for your company... they seem to treat you pretty well, and it's hard to hate a company that does that..
LOL... yeah - that area of town typically has a higher territorial adjustment factor than oh say this county. (not nescessarily though - sometimes "nicer" areas have higher incidences of theft, etc and they can be bumped)
