LENGTHY PLOTTY FIC

Edward/Jacob | NC-17 | rimming, kinky/rough sex
summary: "I wanted to claim you. I still do."
thoughts: I am iffy on the use of exclamation points but overall this is one of the best fics in E/J fandom (which is shockingly small - I guess fangirls prefer their self-insert fics?). Simple, clean language. Plot! Use of imprinting that doesn't make me gag! Hot minor dom-sub sex! (Emphasis on both E and J being alphas, I approve.) A fairly sympathetic Bella; she is disposed of (importance-wise) fairly quickly and off-screen, but in one of the more sympathetic portrayals I've seen. I don't think I will ever really like Bella, but I concede she has to be dealt with in some believable way, considering how both Edward and Jacob salivate over her canonically. A good scene with Jacob and Bella in the fourth part. Humorous Rosalie (this fic made me like her generally). Awesome Carlisle. The Cullens, all in all, are basically A+ in this. And a good non-conclusionary ending. :D
Also: correct usages of "its", sobbing. This made me so happy, you have no idea.

summary: “I heard you were going to Portland,” the werewolf says bluntly, leaning against the cycle. “I’m coming with you.” Bella's transformation goes wrong, and Edward and Jacob must work together to find her before the Volturi do.
thoughts: Interesting premise that I can get behind because it's fun to see how things might not work out all fairy-tale perfect as SMeyer writes. I think there was a good job portraying Edward still tied up and in love with Bella, even if she's turned into a monster, and how he's never quite sure he will ever be able to kill her. Jacob, I can't quite get a feel for... This is well-written with a kind of somber, depressing tone to it, but it's a good read. Kind of poetic without resorting to tacky, pretentious poetic styling. I feel like the Edward/Jacob happened a little quickly, but I'm not really complaining. I do love Alice though. I kind of always do. The ending makes me ): - in a good way?
Three Days Grace by Temperance
Edward/Jacob, some Edward/Bella | M | Unfinished at 15/16
summary: When Jacob and Edward finally meet up without Bella around Jacob realizes he might feel differently for Edward than he thought, and that Edward may too.
thoughts: Even though it's technically unfinished, I put it up here because there's only one chapter left and you can essentially guess the ending. This is, of course, classic Jacob-imprints-on-Edward fic. It is one of the decently written ones, in terms of prose. It is, however, prone to melodramatic twists and turns - the author claims she could write for a soap opera. This is true. Thank god there are no unexpected pregnancies in this (just Bella's). The fic does a decent job addressing Edward and Bella's relationship (they're married, she's pregnant, but not quite how you think - not BD-canon) and how Jacob fits in that. I am not fond of how Jacob's pack reacts to the imprinting, but it's believable, considering the animosity, and I like the portrayals of Leah and Seth. Bella is also a bit, um, demonized later on in the fic - but not to a horrifically character-bashing extent. The author at least gives her fairly valid reasons for being the way she is, and she has her sympathetic moments. I'm all for E/J, of course, but parts of this came off way too true-love-is-like-this (i.e., a little too mushy gushy and oh-so-romantic) for my taste. Still, a good explanation provided for why the mutual E/J. I'm impressed. :D Some people don't even bother to justify it. As always, the Cullens are great - but here in particular, Esme shines.
Fic could use some additional commas, but it's not too painful to read. ;)

summary: He’s not going to forgo the treaty and step on puppy land, but he figures, if he stays at his side of the border, at least one of the wolves will catch his smell.
thoughts: Chance (gay!) encounter, but done well. Awesome grammar (omg so happy) and good portrayal of Edward's thoughts without resorting to first person POV, which I loathe. :D

thoughts: First person. ): But done decently. This fic had potential, but it is so unfinished, augh. Jacob imprints on Edward, of course, but in a way that could have been hilarious! I enjoyed his pack's thoughts. Oh well...

thoughts: THIS IS A TRASHY INDULGENCE, OKAY? I don't even know what's up with this one. It read decently - though trashily. I spent a long time going, did this author just make Edward turn human again?! But that is not what she did, thank god. A lot of Edward/Bella at the beginning, but the Jacob bits slip in comfortably later. I despise the way the author calls Bella "Isabella" in prose because, what, I don't read the series and I know that's not right. But I skim over her name/character anyway. /mulish. Jacob imprints and this is not one of the fics where I love it, but I do love his pack's reaction to it. :D That's right, bitches, this imprintation thing of yours is crazy and sick and you have no conscious choice in it. Way to go, SMeyer, in continuing to build healthy relationships.
Oh, I just skimmed to the end and I semi-take this rec back. JUST STOP READING AT CHAPTER 9. Wtf, she does a huge time-skip in chapter 10 and all this ridiculous uncanon bullshit starts happening... Maybe it's a good thing she stopped writing. :| Aughh, I only semi-rec this. It is my most ~~~ rec on here.

thoughts: ON THE OTHER END OF THE SPECTRUM, THIS IS CURRENTLY MY BIGGEST REC. Ahhh, I hate that it's a WIP, but author says she's pretty much done writing the fic and it's just a matter of posting the other half. That makes me :D.
SO THIS FIC. It has freaking awesome, awesome Carlisle and Emmett. Like, fuck, I love them. And she builds a believable bond between the Cullens and the Quiletes, bridging their differences slowly but inexorably. Carlisle is just too awesome and polite to resist, okay? Bella is dismissed in the first (long) chapter, in a pretty creative way. I have to say I don't totally mind getting her out of the way that fast, especially because the author does write the repercussions, so it's not a total easy-way-out. Edward actually makes me :D because he loves Carlisle in his own way and is grumpy about the shifters.
AND AUTHOR DOES A GREAT, GREAT APPROACH TO AN OLD TROPE and I kind of explode with love for that. I want more of this fic! I am shameless in announcing this! Everything develops pretty gradually but that just makes me more excited but, yay, development, and yay, length! I pretty much like every character in this fic. :D YAY FOR JACOB'S PACK. YAY FOR THE CULLENS. YAY FOR EDWARD AND JACOB. AND EVEN CHARLIE.
