I took a creative writing workshop with Allen Ginsberg yesterday from the comfort of my bed. It was through an audio recording made in July 24th, 1982, at the Jack Kerouac conference in Boulder, Colorado. Four days from now, that will be 27 years ago ( Read more... )

What were you doing on that day, I wonder?! :-)

Would your parents have attended any of those conferences?

The recording is actually thanks to the Naropa Institute - I think the conference might have been organised by them back in the day.

I also went to a Peter Pan kindergarden! :-)

What did you think of True Blood? I think it looks promising!

It's promising in a pervy soap kinda way (I like the waitress' brother being half-naked most of the time!) I've heard the second season has gathered high praise so I'm going to give it a go... maybe it's one of those shows (*cough*Buffy*cough*) that hits its stride later on.

I was really looking forward to "True Blood" but only lasted four episodes. I hate the whole 'paranormal romance' schtick and no matter how much they try to dress it up with the odd flash of post-modern black comedy, it's still basically just "Twilight" with loads of sex.

In fact, I found "Twilight" easier to digest since at least that's aimed at teenagers. To market the same kind of story to adults just struck me as creepy and wrong.

A shame because the production design is grrrrrreat (and I love that credits sequence).

Yes!

Everyone: I was not instantly taken with the series, but now, half way through the second season, it has its hooks (er, fangs?) in me. The tone takes a while to get used to, but it's really pretty hilarious, and the over-the-top pulp aesthetic is just spot-on.

Remember, you have to ignore the black chick in the first episode, she's terrible and the next Tara is much better. It's cheesy and some of the acting is cringe-worthy but other performances and the storyline in general so far make up for all that.

I'm totally current, the next time I come to your house remind me to bring my external. And it looks like thepiratebay.org has all of both seasons (well, so far, on the second).
