I always liked MJ for her BRRRRRAAAAAAAIIIIIIIINNNNNSSSSS

So, I typically stay out of the big discussions from When Fangirls Attack simply because there's always a dozen people who are saying what I would say - but better. They do my job for me - it's nice ( Read more... )

he zombified pic seems to almost be mocking the sexiness incorporated in the original so Id say its cool

I would probably enjoy WFA for all the wrong reasons. Something about the feminist movement really amuses me. I have always enjoyed jokingly debating the sexes. I dont know. I grew up not really believing girls were all that different from guys. I always had = amounts of both for friends.

I never really saw anything wrong with putting sexy imagery that is entertaining to look at on covers. I just must be less evolved in my thought processes.

In fact the new age "tell kids its ok to be obese because its who you are" bothers me way more then the old school "sexy imagines of girls deliver ridiculously difficult standards" stuff

"I would probably enjoy WFA for all the wrong reasons. Something about the feminist movement really amuses me."

Maybe you have a skewed view of the movement then? Maybe a bad experience with a crazy feminist or some such?

Unless you actually believe that women and men are treated equally in our society and therefore feminism is pointless?

"I never really saw anything wrong with putting sexy imagery that is entertaining to look at on covers. I just must be less evolved in my thought processes."

Well, the problem is, how often do you see a picture on a comic book cover of a man being sexy?

No I am sure the feminist movement needs to exist and all. I dont think either sex should be pushed around. Sexism is jsut somehting I experience way less than femnisim. I guess that makes me lucky.

As for the man comic book cover being sexy. I am not 100% sure what sexy is for a man. But I am sure I have seen tons of comics with the hero's shirt tattered and his 6 pack showing.

As a side note, doesnt a comic have a right to market itself towards its reader base which I would guess is mostly male? I am sure when they write the story they think long and hard about what would be entertaining to thier readers, so shouldnt the cover get the same treatment if not moreso (Its the first thing everyone sees and a lure to pick up the book int he first place)

Well, how often do you see a picture of a woman with her shirt tattered and sixpack showing? Most male heros are well-muscled, whereas most female heros are slender (except for their disproportionate breasts) and don't have any definition. Men get to be strong, women get to be sexy.

Betweeen boob windows, barely-there costuming, spandex wedgies, boob socks, and skirts - it's all about sex when it comes to women. You can regularly see nipples, you can always see both ass-cheeks, and on some special occassions - camel-toe. If she wears a skirt, you're gonna see her underwear.

The men? They are Ken dolls - often times they don't have any nipples and God forbid you show them with any sort of package. The way angry fanboys felt about Citizen Steele's crotch? That's the way many fangirls feel all the time.

If you "get" why people are offended by that picture, it's not because you're understanding. It's because you're a lame ass. All that's to "get" about why people are offended by that picture is that those people are nimrods who miss the point.

It's a parody. It's gross. If someone is going on and on about it for two weeks...they need to untwist their panties.

If they remove all the "sexy" parts, the picture loses its point. It doesn't become a sexy picture turned gross, it just becomes a nasty ass looking zombie with a semblance to Mary Jane. It no longer parodies sexy covers because there's no sexy to contrast with the rotting corpse.

It's not sexying up violence. It's uglyifying sexy - but to do that, some "sexy" needs to remain. Otherwise, no parody. Just another picture of a zombie.

Anyone getting wound up because of that cover is an uptight nimrod.

Also: Well, MJ has as much right to be a zombie as Tony Stark.

I agree. Unless you like being angry, you are jsut wasting your life letting that picture bother you.

"they need to untwist their panties." has long been the best lingual weapon ever in combating feminists who overdo it a bit. It totally messes them up

Hi, I'm The Internet. Have we met before?

" 'they need to untwist their panties.' has long been the best lingual weapon ever in combating feminists who overdo it a bit. It totally messes them up"

Except that the first person (I saw) to point it out and be angry about it, was a dude.

But then, being a feminist, I'm sure he wears women's underwear.

For the record, superman wore his underwear on the outside. That’s gotta be sexy.

"First, don't readers/women/feminists have a right to voice their opinions when they feel a comic company has screwed up?"

I by no means am saying shut up and sit down. Just arguing the other side. I welcome the debate. Its very rare I say shut up and don’t express your opinion. The only time I can think of that recently has been over the group protesting funerals.

"Shouldn't they tell let them know when they disagree with the way a character they love or their gender is portrayed?"

Sure go nuts but they cant "decide". It comes down the makers of the comic. My problem really comes down to this. In high school someone did a huge mural of a bunch of marvel characters in the school (it was allowed). It was there for like 10 years. Then there is this big uproar that the it was creating low self esteem in the girls and they painted over it. I never heard 1 student complain (it never even came up). Those are the things that bother me

I dont think that movie had the desired effect on me.

I spent the whole time trying to decide if having a grey hoo-ha was healthy even if your skin was grey. I came to the conclusion it was not.
