I am in the same boat - except worse because I'm well over 70,000 songs. It would take a long time. I usually resort to either random play or picking an album that is a recent acquisition. I do have a nice playlists of random selections that were particularly good though.
since i use itunes, i utilize it's rating system to my advantage (you can easily rate any track from 1 - 5 stars). if i hear a track that i particularly like i will give it a 4 or 5 star rating. then periodically i just sort all my music by rating and put all of the 4 and 5 star tracks into a playlist that i use to as my optimal random-play list.
**i see (via last.fm) that you've been listening to bitstream - excellent taste.
+ wow: 70,000 songs would be quite a challenge. how much hard drive space do you have available for that?
