Boots

Sep 05, 2006 19:44

I need some new nice casual shoes for the fall. I'm considering square-toed chelsea boots, which is a vision I have in my mind more than anything I've actually seen. Does anyone have any ideas on where to look or who might make an attractive version? Or for that matter, any comments on the advisability/fashionability of same?

do you really think chelsea boots are dress casual? what's the situation you'll be wearing them in?

Man, I don't know if I'm using "dress casual" right. I mean that I want to have leather shoes so I can get away with wearing jeans to work, and would like to occasionally wear them with other trousers that are not dress pants.

I guess I really mean "nice casual," but since sneakers are my default casual mode, I don't really know what to call it.

I will edit the original post accordingly.

i'm thinking yeah on the square toe chelseas for you. yes. don't suspect you can get them there, but have you ever been to that crazy men's shoestore on 52nd near walnut-ish (1 block from brown sugar)? course, if you go in there, you might bypass the chelsea idea and come out with a pair of yellow snakeskin square toe loafers with contrasting topstitching!

nice to see you out briefly on saturday. You dissapeared before i really got a chance to say hello!

Nice to se you too. I was in a mood, and not exactly fit for public consumption, so I split quietly. But first I got my Maple Rabbit fix.

I missed your performance too - or all but the final 10 seconds. Sorry. Will I see you around town again, or will it be on my next midwestern voyage?

I have not been to that particular crazy men's shoestore, but after an afternoon trying every fucking shoestore on south street, I saw enough of its analogs. Hello Dudes Boutique!

sadly, you probably won't see me around this town for a while. I am leaving shortly after noon tomorrow (or, today, i suppose, technically).

I am really in support of these kinds of things. My friend pwastika rocks boots like there's no tomorrow. He finds affordable ones from secret places in Calgary and probably Montreal. I'm sure there are tons of great wildly unaffordable ones out there. But Ben Sherman made quite a few nice styles this year that I believe are all under $200. Check them out on benshermanusa.com. Is something like what you're thinkif of there? I have a very big soft spot for the ones with called the Bull boot, although they don't come in black if that's what you're looking for. The ryder men's chelsea boot and the clacton boot are also rad. Last week I saw an awesome super simple sleek pair at Nordstron by hugo boss, but they were more expensive than the ben shermans. They were less than $300 bucks though. I'm not sure what's considered expensive on your lavish attorney's salary. hehe!

Ok, now that I read the other responses, maybe I've suggested things that are too dressy. That said, it seems to me that you want to shift your default casual mode to something a little dressier/sharper, so why not?

Also on second thought, the Clacton boots SLAY me. I love them. The details are amazing. I think those and the Bull ones present two equally amazing but very different options.

The Clactons are definitely interesting, as are the Heptons. I don't think I can handle the Bull or the Ryder though. I'm not that much of a fancy lad.

Would that I earned a lavish attorney's salary. I'm paying the bills, but that's about the end of the luxury.

I bought some boots online from Camper last year and love them. Don't know much about their men's style, but I highly recommend the co.

Yes to the square toed chelsea boots. Ask cd where she buys overpriced footwear in town, and you will find the place. You could also go to that store called shoe (really) in SoHo the next time you're in nyc. I think you want something durable, not too shiny, comfortable but not schlubby. If you were here, I'd know where to take you. Good luck. I'm in the middle of my own personal pants hell, of course.

I'm in perpetual pants purgatory. commandercranky September 6 2006, 22:01:54 UTC
We have no shortage of overpriced footwear. But a solid day's looking on Monday could not turn up anything resembling my vision. So I turn to the internet. But I hate the idea of buying shoes without trying them on first. I know you can send them back, but what a hassle.

Use zappos.com

It may seem like a hassle, but it is the opposite of a hassle. So easy that I banned myself from going there, you get the shoes all packed up with return slips already in there, etc.
