Comfort and Regression

For as long as I can remember, stuffed animals have been a part of my "safety net". I never left for a sleepover, summer camp or a vacation without my favorite stuffed animal. I had a doll called Skye-Louise, untill my dad threw her away. I have a big fluffy dog I got for my 8th birthday, I have a wombat I got in Australia and a monkey from my lady. I can't go anywhere without my monkey, I need him to hug at night whoever else is in my bed.

I love teddy bears as well, always have. In fact I bought two today. :) They're so comforting.

I have a teddy called Tinto (after my mother's parents cottage, which was named after a hill) which I got a few days after I was born.

During a lot of my mood-dips since childhood he's been the one supplying the cuddles as I cried and wished a human would supply the cuddles. And now he's the only one I allow to supply the cuddles when I'm *that* upset, because it doesn't feel right for anyone else to.

I also have various Eeyore stuffed toys (Eeyore, in his perpetual misery, as always fascinated me, and I guess made me feel "not alone") and other teddy's I've received from friends to cuddle when I'm down :)

Stuffed animals can be so nurturing in our times of need. I used to be ashamed of the fact that I still relied on them for a level of emotional support, but when you consider some of the alternatives, they are the most reliable, consistent and non-judgemental options out there! :)
