Aww, I am going to comment rather than just chat you because that was the most beautiful entry ever! I loved, loved, loved the ending <3 and I love how it's so gentle and poignant and sad... and then the video of Doyle just makes me giggle xD

Also, we totally sang Octopus' Garden in primary school choir! It's a song I associate with being eight and in a stuffy portable. And I grew up listening to The Seekers and the Carpenters, my mum's favourites. And John Farnham xD

Awwwwww!! <3 Your comment made me smile lots.

I'm glad we weren't the only kids who sung that in primary school! I think my Mum got a John Farnham album as well, but I didn't keep that one >.> I just brought over my favourites of her CDs like Celine Dion, Carole King, Bette Midler, Elton John and Peter, Paul & Mary.

I have an appreciation for Linda Ronstadt and all those sixties sock hop tunes thanks to my mother. Both will always remind me of her.

Amazing how music can connect us like that, isn't it? :D

Without question. I've always liked music more when it was contextual. It's rare that I get excited to see a concert.

Yeah, same. The only concert I've been to was the Pet Shop Boys, and I associate their music with my husband since they're his favourite music group and so I wanted to share that concert experience with him.

Oh this is just so true - I have such vivid memories of my dad and I together, with him playing the music he loved, and humming it. Or putting in an eight-track and going for a ride.

sigh

I'm glad you could relate! Do you play music with your children, too?

Absolutely! Actually, I've made a point of playing and singing some of the songs that my Dad sung to me - I'm genuinely hoping that they'll be just as meaningful to them when they get older :)

Aww this totally almost made me tear up now!

My nephew loves The Beatles Rock Band too. He would sing Yellow Submarine all day long if he could!

I still think that particular video is absolutely adorable!

<3

Doyle has several favourites that he liked to do over and over. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, 8 Days a Week and I Wanna Hold Your Hand were probably his top 3. It's so sad our PS3 broke so he can't do it any more. I loved hearing him sing along to the game!
