Rattler Crossing

So, last night we found what we thought was a baby Rattlesnake out on the front porch. It was adorable. I'd take a baby, highly venomous snake any time over my nephew. Took it down to the University today and found out it was a little Night Snake, not very venomous at all. It looks like a rattler, but it's a hell of a lot smaller and has no rattle ( Read more... )

He is probably better off at the university. We used to have snakes,
poisonous and non poisonous come into our yard in San Diego. We were on a mesa.
It was a little disconcerting at times to see the length of some of them.
I particularly recall the California racers and forget what the other one was which was brown and light yellow diamonds on it. They came up in the yard seeking water most of the time.....
There were a series of canyons surrounding the house.
I recall killing a baby rattler and mom had to climb over the counter in the kitchen into the family room because there was an adult rattler coiled between the kitchen and the hallway.
We have lived with poisonous snakes overseas also. I would rather tackle a snake any day than a slithery, sneaky spider.

Yeah, I'd have no idea how to take care of him. The closest thing I've kept was a couple of vinegaroons that I kept in the basement for about two years. I love creepy crawlies - snakes, worms, spiders, scorpions, toads. I really can't see why some people have a problem with them.

...Of course, most people don't have to live in a house that's infested with Black Widows. They really don't bother you, seriously. Spiders aren't going to come up to you in the middle of the night and bite you, unless it's an accident and you roll over on them. I've only been bitten once, and by a harmless little Jumping spider. XD
