I don't have my book with me, but I'll type up this neat little tidbit (later) about going for your mating flight and coming back with around 6-7 different genital ..uh, things ripped off from several donors-- whom are already dead. And the fact that you're able to harvest those and fertilize yourself (XDD) for the next 2-3 years or so. Think...black widows and praying mantids. XD

She flies as fast as she can and typically is followed by a few dozen drones. Because the strongest and fastest drone is most likely to catch her, this is a method of selection for superior genetic material. Once successful, the drone snaps his genitalia into the queen in midair. (shanked, biatch) They fall to the ground and the queen eventually rips off his genitalia. ... The queen may mate up to 10 times on her flight, but does not mate again once she returns to the hive. ... Once mated, she is capable of laying 10k eggs a month for 3 years.
