I've been lurking here for a while now and seeing this prompt I had to post a request myself (I blame the writer of "Payback" for this prompt). :) I hope someone's gonna write it.

Prompt/Request: Neal gets hurt and in Peter's absence Hughes has to do the comforting. The way Neal gets injured is up to the writer.

Characters: Neal, Hughes, Peter

I would Like: Neal getting hurt on the job (doesn't have to be undercover though), Peter chasing the bad guy(s), Hughes staying behind with injured Neal, a bit of Neal and Peter banter, hospital scene with both Peter and Hughes visiting in the end

I Don't Want: internal bleedings, head trauma or broken bones, Neal being unconscious for most of it, crack!fic or anything silly, 1st person POV, slash, Hughes being a jerk, Peter coming back too soon (I want a good portion of it to be just Neal and Hughes)

Not the OP, but I'm glad you going to take this one, I love Hughes so I'm looking forward to this story.

Thank you very much! I wasn't sure if someone would pick it up since Hughes isn't a major character really. I'm so looking forward to read it! :)

I can't post at your journal anonymously, so I have to write you here. :)

Thank you so much for writing this for my prompt, I enjoyed reading every bit of it! You wrote Hughes really perfectly, staying professional and yet caring! I so loved the bits between Neal and Hughes! Good job!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It took me a few days to answer your prompt because I wasn't sure what it would take for him to be in a place where he'd need to provide aid to Neal, and for Neal to "allow" it (as in, not saying he was fine). I never thought Hughes was a jerk in the series (gruff, certainly), but, having spent a few years as a civilian with no military background working in a police agency, I understand the mindset. It was fun to explore.

Thank you for your kind comments, and for posting such an interesting prompt!

I totally enjoyed it! Yeah, I thought it was difficult to get the right situation that would work but you did a great job with it. I don't think of Hughes being a jerk either, it's just that I read him being shown that way in lots of fanfics, so I guess there are some fans who do. I'm glad you had fun exploring it. :)

You're welcome and thanks for writing that beautiful piece!

A little less Neal/Peter banter than you might have wanted, but I hope this answers your prompt (at my LJ, because it's a bit long).
