physicspirate (8:09:16 PM): so when we were home i made a salad and got whatever was the first salad dressing i could find out of the fridge
physicspirate (8:09:20 PM): it was "french"
physicspirate (8:09:29 PM): on a hunch i checked the expiration date
physicspirate (8:09:36 PM): and it was "oct 28 2002"

I routinely sing "happy birthday" when the expired items in my mother's fridge pass another year.

ah, beaten by a mere 5 months!
Though, there is a distinct possibility, since that date was the expriation date, that the dressing was in the 'fridge prior to the horse thread.

Still, it's so very long ago. Just think---if we were able to somehow go back to that long-ago time, before that dressing had expired, with the knowledge we have today---how much suffering and evil might have been averted.

When I was home my mom and I got into an argument about whether the hot sauce in the fridge had been there when I was growing up, or if it was a different bottle. The label was peeling off, and there was brown stuff caked to the lid in a pattern I found very familiar and comforting, like a much-beloved childhood blanket. I suppose I could look up the company and see if they're still in business, but you know, I don't really want to.
