Communication. It's a good thing, part 2.

The LARP itself is great, though. I'm at a stage of comfort with it where I think I get where we're going and what we're doing, where we've come from and how we've gotten there. Which means I can now start making changes to how things are done. One particular issue is troubling me; there's no politics in the game. The PCs are all united as a court ( Read more... )

Well for mixing up a game, you have a few options. Scarcity as observed is a great motivator, so things like blood shortages (either due to a blood disease, safe hunting grounds drying up, or outside predators) all work. Magic, money and influence with mortals are also other resources that can suffer from scarcity.

But here is another strategy... Confederates. Recruit some of the players to join the GM's side. It can either be done in game as an NPC with an agenda (Tremere powergrab or what have you) recruits existing PC's to their cause with carrots. Another option is the doppleganger plot. Recruit a good player (OOC) who doesnt mind a change in their character. Then in game, their character is replaced by something with an agenda thats going to shake things up (e.g. Tzimisce sabbateur, shapeshifting demon etc) but the same player keeps playing them. If the PC's are internally united against an external threat, then they never see it coming when a player becomes an NPC.

Let's see if any of the following makes a lick of sense. craigoxbrow June 30 2010, 16:29:40 UTC
This is all off the top of my head without knowing who or what the external enemies are, so I'm guessing the Sabbat or something like them, which is what united the Camarilla and sidelined the Anarchs between first and revised editions. (I am Antediluvian and remember when the Sabbat were an offscreen mystery and conflict came from within the Camarilla and Anarchs almost exclusively. And werewolves had clans named after their animal totems ( ... )

Okay, while I don't know the exact structure of your narration tools and the mechanics being used, the only thing you need is whopping external plot and the ability to play many npcs (or recruit players to portray them ( ... )

Few players can resist a mystery! A good hook is sometimes all you need but I digress again, later.
