But Liquor is Quicker Supernatural Dean/Jo; R 1,500 words A/N: for my Valentine, a few minutes late. From her prompt, which was "candy hearts. Take that in any way you will." Thanks to killerweasel and walkawayslowly for read-through.
His ambivalence is maddening, and her anger flares up, sudden and blinding. She looks around for something to throw, but the first thing her eyes land on is her dad's knife, and she's too damn good a marksman for that. There's a bag of conversation hearts with cutesy sayings on them on her nightstand, a gift from one of the regulars. Dean's still looking for his lost shoe, oblivious, as she grabs a handful. The first one hits him square in the head.
oh, jo. *sigh* she rocks.
i can imagine that dean would be a real prick to have a thing for. eyes only for sam, really. :(
not only that, he's just... socially retarded, no idea how to treat people, much less a GIRL. and i'm sure that once he knew that jo would let him into her bed and then let him just walk away, only to let him back in again, well. it's not the healthiest "relationship" ever, but i could definitely see it going that way for them.
yeah, as much as i love dean (and my god, i love him a lot), i really don't think i'd be letting him near my little sister, or anyone else i felt mildly protective towards. (not that i'd have a choice, really)
it's a bit of a fucked-up scenario you've got going here! but i like it. i can totally see it. and i like that your jo is feisty but not completely OOC with it.
I never really thought I'd be saying this, but I like Dean and Jo together and you made a lovely job of capturing the unsteady balance between them.
I like how oblivious Dean is, not mean, not cruel, just plain naive. He doesn't know, doesn't understand, all the love he knows is waiting for him in a motel room and it's got nothing to do with her bed.
I like how matter-of-fact Jo is, how strong, how hard, and I like that she's still a girl, too, and that she can't help being in love with him, and that maybe she doesn't even know she is.
the thing about dean, for me, is that he really IS this oblivious when it comes to regular human interaction. he's socially retarded (albeit charmingly, for the most part). sure he can charm information out of nearly anyone, and can certainly talk his way out of a sticky spot, but that's just training, conditioning. he's so emotionally closed off to anyone that's not sam that he... just doesn't get it, what's going on here. or with jo in general, even so far as canon goes.
all of which is a very long-winded way to say thank you. :)
It's six steps to the bed but they make it in four My favorite line.
I was expecting this to just be a nice smutty piece, but then you had to add in the last part with the emotions and the conversation hearts and Dean leaving and Jo crying...ah, the angst.
