1. TNG had cancer surgery yesterday, which went well and they think they got all the tumor. I get to bring her home tonight and she will look ridiculous because they shaved her entire butt. However while she was under they gave her x-rays and determined that she has severe hip dysplasia. (I knew she was having some trouble, but not that it was so ( Read more... )

Good luck with TNG. We just went through ACL surgery with our lab, and did surgery/chemo/radiation with another lab about 15 years ago. Both are/did well. My vet has been recommending Dasuquin for her arthritis, which I'm still not sold on. We've had good success with Previcox for pain relief.

and I'm sorry about dad and having to deal with everything. It's been a rough year for you and I am sorry.

I watched all of season one of Manhattan, but I have mixed feelings about it. I was only interested in the science and scientific/military/project politics, and less interested in the scientists' home lives, which I found boring in large part because of the players and the melodramatic way in which it was presented. It's sort of a paradox. Can't have one without the other, but I really only want the one. *g* Also I've read approx. 1,000,000 books (that's a rough estimate) about Los Alamos, the Manhattan Project, etc, and I feel the showrunners wasted a ton of potential in the way they chose to present the topic, and what they focus on. The conflict between the military and the civilians was pretty spectacular. More of that would be great.

Yeah, there's a blogger at Scientific American who's been recapping, although I haven't had time to read more than one of them. She does know enough to cross-check some of the history.

I'm less interested in the younger couple (Charlie and Abby?) and the wife's burgeoning bisexuality than I am in Eliza's frustration as a scientist forbidden to publish. Definitely don't care about Frank sleeping with Paloma, or their kid sleeping with the private who killed Sid.

Want more politics and science. But I am enjoying the way the show is giving us women doing things, as much as possible in that context. I do wonder how they chose who to fictionalize and who not to. Will we see baby!Richard Feynman wandering around, or is that supposed to be Charlie? (Not possible: Feynman had a sense of humor, and Charlie has none.)

Not enough characters are smoking, I suspect, but I loved the bit with the DDT. Yikes!

Oh, poor TNG! I hope she recuperates without any problems. Keeping fingers crossed that your dad's medical issue is minor, too. Geez, you really need a break from your loved ones having health issues all over the place.

Opthamologist didn't seem too concerned about Dad, which is good. And TNG is home safe, lookign ridiculous but getting around ok.
