Just finished: Rimrunners by C. J. Cherryh. It's another of the Alliance/Union stories. Bet Yeager is lost and alone, but she isn't a victim: she's a 20-year veteran space marine, and when she lands on a privateering vessel in the aftermath of an ugly war, she (mostly) lands on her feet.
