Savage Minds today has an interesting piece on some new research about food allergies. Apparently a recent British study found little medical evidence of food allergies in most of the people who claimed to have them. Huh.

I suspect the rise of food allergies has a lot to do with the lack of intestinal parasites, but I'm ok with this trade. Also, I read both articles, and couldn't find the method by which someone "disproves" an allergy or intolerance, medically.

I'd be very interested in seeing what that method entails. Because the common heuristic method of determining a food sensitivity or allergy is hardly clinical to begin with.

While the writer is correct that some people do say they have food allergies as a shorthand for "I don't like this" or "I want to be special," there are a bunch of us who really DO have food allergies. I have spent more evenings than I can count puking my guts out because people (like my mom, or a restaurant server, or a DOCTOR) ignored my food allergies. It sucks like a giant sucking thing.

It is interesting that the study in question was funded by the Flour Advisory Bureau.
