Ignorance is no virtue.

I don't even know what to write under this topic, but i see it all the time.

Case in point, last night in WOW, some loser kid saying "no one cares about history." Huh?

Anyone want to throw me a bone as to why some people feel that being undereducated is a good thing?

I don't think it is so much that they feel that being undereducated is a good thing.

Merely that the effort spent becoming educated could have been spent better elsewhere (don't ask me where). So the process of becoming educated is bad.

Also, it is much easier for a fourteen year old to believe that no one cares about history becuase they have so little of it that has scarred them for life yet. Once they get their heart broken a few times, I guarentee they'll care about history more, if only because they'll know how to hold grudes now.

Yeah, when I wrote my post I was trying for something shorter than the tome I wrote earlier, but the religious angle was one not lost on me.

Put another way, if God does exist, and he did create us, then he gave us one of the most sophisticated organs possible...our brains. It would be a shame not to use them.

It relieves them from various and sundry responsibilities?

Can't we just have a mission statement instead?

I got to edit and correct a mission statement written by a MBA/JD CEO once. Education doesn't count if it doesn't stick.

History for history's sake boils down to an entertainment/personal interest. If it engages your imagination, it's a fabulous world to play in. If it doesn't hold your interest, it's boring. That's completely subjective. Do not try to sell me on bass fishing, for example. Really ( ... )
