I don't really have much to say about Gene Wolfe's The Shadow of the Torturer. I just could not get into this book. The style put me off, I didn't care about the characters, and the plot is somewhat episodic and doesn't really take off even by the end of the book since this is the first in a series. On top of all of that, I didn't really care

Without realizing it was the fourth book in the series, I started with The Urth of the New Sun, which I loved. I've read the earlier books since, but didn't like them as much.

I've read a few reviews of the series that lead me to believe that I would like later books better than the first one or two, so maybe I'll give that one a chance sometime. Eventually.
