So I got another 4.0 GPA in my Czech language class.... geek, geek, geekI'm sooooo relieved I don't have to take the Graduate Record Exam, in order to attend graduate studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies. I am bummed that going there will mean spending two years in San Francisco. :-( My apologies to Bay Area residents :-) my ( Read more... )

It'll be at least a year and a half...I really should enroll for Fall 2008, but I'm kinda crochety about going straight into grad school (I'm supposed to have my B.A. by summer 2008). I'm stressed about the cost of living there, though. I want to live close to campus, which is in SOMA (I think), and I have little desire to have a car there....

It's kind of SOMA... :-) It's about a block away from BART/MUNI and near a zillion bus lines. So, you could live just about anywhere in-town and still be really close to school, as long as you weren't too far from said public transportation.

Most of my carless friends live in the Mission District and that is less expensive, more fun, and a little less scary than the neighborhood around the school. It is expensive to live in SF and that totally sucks. You'll probably have to have a roommate or two or...

A car... Oh, the parking tickets... A car begins to feel like this huge thing that you always have to have a place for and always have to keep track of... Like you're carrying a huge handbag! Lol... It was liberating when I gave away my car when I first moved to the city.

We do have a lot of the City Car Share programs and that makes a lot of things easier. Oh, along with grocery-delivery, which I loved when I lived at the top of a 3 story walk up and had to go pick up a lot of heavy stuff (cat litter, water, party supplies).

cool that it's convenient to all public transit! But I still want to live close-in, mainly because I DO NOT want a car. Exactly as you describe, live having this big, old albatross around your neck! (It's funny that you use an analogy of a huge handbag; I hate purses and the like, for just this feeling THEY give ;-) heheh ( ... )
