On Wednesday I tootled off up to Birmingham, for the dual purposes of seeing davegotsu and to see a couple of gigs. While I was there, I didn't check email or go online or anything. It was strangely liberating, not being shackled to a computer.

On Wednesday night I went to see Regina Spektor at the Glee Club. I'm not hugely familiar with many of her songs ( Read more... )

Just finished the first book: argh Ned! Though not a surprise he was too nice and honest. Lannisters are mean!

Listened to some of the MP3s; theres that song from the cheese advert, I like it.

I liked Ned though. I still haven't got over his death. To my mind he was the main character, and then he got his head chopped off! Not good. Anyway, you read that quickly. Have you been reading since I left?

I love that song... "At The Hop" it's called. When I first heard it, I could have sworn I'd already heard it somewhere before, and assumed it had been on an advert. No-one else seemed to recognise it though, and since I watch very little TV it was unlikely that I'd seen an advert that no-one else had. Then about three months later it turned up on that cheese advert. I do hope I haven't developed some of advert-prescience or something.

Oh yes I liked Ned, he was a great character and a good man. But its true he couldn't survive at court, not without changing and I doubt he really could. I think George RR Martin actually did enough foreshadowing; there was all that stuff about Ned belonging in the north, about how men went south and bones came back.
Yeah i've pretty much been reading it all the time, but I have a fair amount of free time (though I should be reading useful books too).

Advert-prescience? Thats a fairly useless power.

I know it's a useless power - that's why I don't want it. It would be just my luck to turn out to have a power and have it be something completely useless like that. I'd far rather have either something traditional (fly, strength, invisibility, etc etc etc) or something highly practical like the ability to cause washing-up to be done with a glance. Or the ability to make buses/trains/whatever turn up on time!
