Anybody else having trouble with Firefox lately?

It seemed to start after the 2.0.0.12 update, but I can't be sure it was directly related to that; it could be in combination with some other update to Windows or another program.  But it crashes.  A lot.

It seems to happen randomly, but I notice it most frequently when scrolling through a Web page ( Read more... )

computers, ask lj

Recently, I notice that after awhile, my browser will just plain stop streaming vids and songs, necessitating a restart (and another sigh of "For fuck's sake!").

Of course I'm clueless about it and have no ideas; however, it crashes on me on a daily basis - val every now and again.

I am running 2.0.0.13 which seems to be working fine. I had some issues with some plug-ins in one of the older versions that caused a lot of crashes.

I am surprised you don't have more add-ons.

My problem was the various browser tab hacks which got incorporated into the regular version of firefox. The plugins for those were causing conflicts.

I did have more add-ons at one point, but I started getting rid of them to diagnose the problem.

I think it might be the Google toolbar. After I removed it I ran Firefox for several hours last night with no problems.

Google toolbar seems to cause problems in some unusual circumstances. I have very few problems with Firefox even with Google toolbar running. It is probably some specific site or app causing your problem.

You're running Windows 2000?

I wish I could offer advice, but we've gone almost completely Vista here at work. I can't say I've experienced the same behavior. Running Firefox 2.0.0.13.

No, XP, but I tried running Firefox in Windows 2000 compatibility mode as suggested by Mozilla's Firefox crash page to see if that would fix the problem.

So you're saying I should upgrade to Vista?! Oh noez!

No, I wouldn't advise upgrading to Vista. It sucks.

You could do a system restore, if you remember a point at which Firefox was not having problems. However, that would also roll back everything else you've installed since that point.

Yeah, it's been a while since it's started happening, so I'm pretty sure I don't have a restore point that wouldn't have a problem.

I'm trying to milk this a bit to convince the wife I need a new laptop. Mine is almost three years old now! ;-)

Yahoo nukes Firefox all the time for me. Yahoo Finance is fine but Yahoo Sports will crash it every single time on my machine ( ... )

Some excellent info, thanks! And you're right, I noticed that Yahoo Sports seems to be a major culprit in my crash problems as well.
