Anybody else having trouble with Firefox lately?

It seemed to start after the 2.0.0.12 update, but I can't be sure it was directly related to that; it could be in combination with some other update to Windows or another program.  But it crashes.  A lot.

It seems to happen randomly, but I notice it most frequently when scrolling through a Web page ( Read more... )

Yahoo nukes Firefox all the time for me. Yahoo Finance is fine but Yahoo Sports will crash it every single time on my machine.

My solution was two-fold. I upgraded to the Firefox 3 beta 4 and that helped a lot, plus it's much much faster. Yahoo still crashed it however. I then upgraded to beta 5 a day or two ago and no more crashes. Plus it seems faster than 4. I did notice that beta 4 was not all that stable and was pissed because that was the main thing I was hoping for, better stability. They seemed to have focused on that for beta 5.

My advice is to upgrade to 3b5 and live the good life. Some extensions that you know and love won't work, or won't work right. For example Gmail Manager doesn't remember passwords so you have to enter them every time you start Firefox but thanks to it's sane memory management you don't have to restart Firefox like you did with version 2 so it's not much of a problem.

I really miss Vertigo and even in compatibility mode it won't work in 3b4 and I haven't tried it with beta 5... figuring it won't work with this one either. Hopefully the author will do an update soon as I really miss that one. I waited a very long time to upgrade to Firefox 2 from 1.5 because there was no vertigo and only switched once a new version was avail. This time I was so tired of the constant crashing that it was either upgrade or switch to IE and I really didn't want to do that.

I love Firefox but the latest version 2 builds are shite, possibly because they are focused on version 3 and aren't taking enough time to really test the 2.x's that they are releasing.

Some excellent info, thanks! And you're right, I noticed that Yahoo Sports seems to be a major culprit in my crash problems as well.
