mod post: Final Fantasy VII!

Apr 07, 2009 23:04

I've been playing Final Fantasy VII since I was a little kid, and I just started playing again for the... what, 67th time in ten or so years? (Words can't describe how much I love that game.) I've shipped Cloud/Aerith for at least the past seven years, and Advent Children obviously had nothing to do with it. Anyway, I was just wondering, when did ( Read more... )

FFVII was my first Final Fantasy, and my first RPG-style game, and the first serious game I played on my very first console: the PlayStation. I used to be a walking strategy guide for FFVII, but I've since grown less obsessive (but still just as loving) of the game.

And, whoa -- nice icon. ;ppp

I can say the same about myself for everything you just said. =)

Hahaha. Yours too. =P When I played FF7 again after watching Advent Children for the first time I remember thinking, this is how it's supposed to be. ♥

Awesome! Did boys at school harass you for information on how to beat bosses and stuff?

I played VII so often during my early to late teen years, and grew to know it so intimately, that I had to wait several years before I could play it again. I wanted that feeling back...so I know exactly what you mean. This euphoria is better than drugs.

Haha, yeah, they did! You too? Were they totally amazed? I was in fifth grade or so at the time. Wowww...

Oh, definitely. =) It's been 2 years since I played FF7 and now that I'm playing it again (Aerith died again yesterday AGSdhadS&8h*&^&*) it's like a whole new game and a whole new experience.

I played it before KH/AC. I think I was 12 the first time I ever played it.

And I just realized that I don't have any FF icons these days. D:

:D I was nearly fourteen when I played the demo, and got the actual game for my birthday!

I wonder how many people here have also played the demo.... It came with Bushido Blade, and there was a fabulous little section about the FFVII controls; the player could make Cloud and Barret do funny poses. The music -- one of Yuffie's themes -- made it all the more hilarious.

Your icon! XD

I never played the demo, but I bet that would be pretty epic, especially the funny poses.

I have actually never seen Advent Children or played any of the Compilation games, whoops.

In my opinion, as long as you've played the game that's totally fine. I'm not particularly fond of Advent Children (although it's totally pretty) or the spin-offs because they change things... though AC had some nice Cloud/Aerith moments.

My God I must have been 10 when I first played it. It was definitely my first "serious" video game, and probably my first PC game.

The amount I continue to care all these years later is pretty astonishing even to me. It's endlessly replayable and none of the expanded material comes close to capturing the spirit (or the canon) of the original game. I was annoyed even then at the amount of not. getting. it. in the fandom, so I stick to this comm and FFVII oldschool now. :)

I think I was nine or ten, too. =) Totally different from Super Mario Bros. 3 and the original Zelda game I was used to playing on my original Nintendo, haha.

I totally agree with everything you just said 100%. AC and all of the other sequels/spin offs just don't have the same feeling, and a lot of people -- especially those new to the fandom -- don't get it, because they didn't experience FF7 the way we did. :')

I remember playing it when I was...nine or ten. I can't exactly remember, but those were some good times. The crossdressing!Cloud scene got me interested in Japanese culture, so lol.

I've purchased AC, but I really regret it. The movie wasn't great, just really pretty. Eyecandy that wasn't needed honestly. I've kept up with the novels and even the cameo appearances for Cloud/Aerith, but I prefer the original game overall. >:

Haha, I was around that age, too. I remember being veeeerrrrry uncomfortable in Corneo's mansion because I wasn't exactly sure if I should be seeing it or not at my age... haha.

I go back and forth between totally hating AC and... I guess finding it... doable? I don't think that's quite the word I'm looking for, but, eh. Sometimes I want to kill Nomura for creating it, simply because it's so different from the original game.

"Eyecandy that wasn't needed honestly" -- AGREED!
