Night pads

Nov 13, 2013 14:45

I am wondering what you ladies do at night? I have some very long pads but they never seem to catch all the blood. It always seems to at least get on my underwear if not all over myself and my bed. I've seen a couple people that say they use depends or diapers. I think that it is a great idea for me at night but I want to stay away from the ( Read more... )

I don't see why all around absorbent underwear wouldn't work, and I don't know that you would even need absorbency in the hip region, just forward and back like toddler training underwear. You probably won't need too many layers, since the issue seems to be spread more than volume. They do make adult cloth diapers, but they are more for incontinence and the bedridden and I think that would be overkill. If it's making a mess of the bed that is the main frustration you can try what I use, which is rather like a large square towel with a waterproof back. Lunapads used to make a similar product, I don't know if they still do.

These are called reusable bed pads or washable underpads. A good size for period needs is 3 foot by 3 foot, but this type of item is made in many sizes (from wheelchair-seat sized to king size bed layers). Invacare's seem to hold up over time to washing (I used several brands in this size for incontinent elder care, which was what gave me the idea to try them under my bedsheet).

Many resellers carry them in non-institutional quantities. Prices vary, some of the size I suggest are about $10 apiece, or sometimes you can get them for as cheaply as 3 for $10 in clearances.

Doesn't hurt to try to make yourself a pair of period undies. If you don't mind the high price tag I would recommend a pair of panties from dearkates.com Shipping is free and they have coupon codes around the internet if you google search. They also send you a 2nd pair free if you didn't absolutely love the first size or style. I have 2 pairs and LOVE them as backup to my overnight pads and for when I'm at work because I'm a teacher and going it the bathroom is a luxury at my school.. Lol! I have a pair similar to these (fully lined)

Good luck!!!

You could be having issues with your cloth pads that you use at night. Some problems could be that they: 1.) aren't long enough 2.) are topped with a non-textured fabric like woven cotton so the flow slides off during gushes 3.) isn't absorbent enough and/or doesn't have a water-proof layer ( ... )

I was thinking I'll just have to make an absorbent layer all the way up the back of my underwear. I never really thought of something so simple lol. My problem is that when I sleep on my back or my stomach which is most of the time, the blood channels down my butt crack and the pads usually don't go that far. I have some 12 inch ones that almost work.

That sounds great too!

There are sellers who make pads way longer than 12 inches. I've seen 14 and 16 inch pads. But, it depends on the top of the pad as well on how it absorbs the flow.

Best of luck :)

For me, a 11-12" pad is my daytime length, not my nighttime length!! I have the same buttcrack problem once every few months. It's one of the reasons I love cloth (even the super long sposies were not long enough

I have longer ones for night from Party in my Pants, Go with the Flow, Artful Angelfish (a new seller on facebook, and she makes a nice nighttime pad and will totally make things to your specs), and New Moon Pads (I recommend getting her ultra ridging up the sides for a nice solid sort of pad if you buy from her).

I actually have been using a cup for almost 3 years. I'm having problems with not being able to fully empty my bladder with it in lately and I just got an IUD so I'm a little nervous to use it right now. I'll probably use it in a few months but I wanted some ideas for the times when I just don't want to put anything up there lol. Thanks though!

Saw this here, and though it's really late, I thought I'd say that I suffered from the same problems of overnight pads still leaking, so I made my own pad. Basically just trace your underwear to the areas where you know it'll leak and make your own pad, if you have a sewing machine. The supplies for an overnight pad should cost you less than $10. Failing that, if I can't find my overnight pads I just fold up a strip of flannel (I always have some on hand) and stuff it into my panties at night, making sure it covers all of my butt in the back XD
