This story is a treasure in itself. I'm glad to see the scamps, having survived so long that they appear as elders, find a happy continuation. I love the way they complement each other and thereby rescue each other. (And young Elrond is priceless.) So that's what wisdom looks like in its callow beginnings: inspiration, intelligence, and good instincts. Very like them.

That is just about the most perfect summary ever of what I've been trying to write with Erestor and Melinna. XD Thank you so much! this story was the first time I'd ever dabbled in fanfic and it's still so nice to hear people enjoy it.
I was sad to come to this tale's end; of course, I was enjoying Melinna and Erestor's conversations - they seemed more as how we know them from other tales than from the beginning of this tale.
Through my reading, I've noted how they complement each other and that's something you can see here. There was also an 'a ha!' moment about her wanting to learn to weave and I chuckled, when she took charge. I must admit, I found her Theory, regarding the women (or lack thereof) in the House of Finwë with quite some merit!
Wonderful, I'm glad they developed into themselves over the course of this! And the 'aha' moment makes me glad; I hope this makes pieces of various other stories make more sense. ^^
(I'm quite fond of the Theory. I don't think I'll ever write it up, or at least any more than an introductory page or two, say; but I did reference it somewhere in the Journal of Alatariel and in the Warping Arda drabbles as well. :D)

Cross-referencing is one of my favourite games. I have been told that this is a skeleton of a story that would be better expanded into some monstrous beast of a novel; but it was only ever meant to be a skeleton to hang other stories on, so I was quite happy with that. I have the attention span of a concussed goldfish, and fanfic isn't really my main focus as a writer anyway, so I prefer to write short interlinking stories and see whether anyone notices the connections instead. XD
Wow. This was a trip through history from a non-Noldor pov, which I really enjoyed. I like the Noldor, but I empathize a lot more with the rest. And wanderlust, yep. I definitely have that. I envy Erestor and Melinna their travels

Oh, me too! I'm glad you enjoyed this -- it's the first thing I wrote (if you're using the masterlist, you'll be reading almost in order of writing, except for the things in the various collections) and I wrote it really as a template for the other things I was thinking of writing. Well, perhaps not so much a template as a place to start from and a way to start collecting significant props, especially that tapestry. It's a bit disconcerting to realise just how long ago I wrote this; as I remember, I had a 16-hour flight and only the Silmarillion to read, so my grasp of the world isn't that impressive, I promise. (And has faded rather since then
