Food Adventure: The Reuben Sandwich

Jun 21, 2006 12:53

For years I thought I didn't like sauerkraut (I'd only ever had my grandmother's and, as my dad laughingly confirmed a year ago once I tried some "real" kraut, my grandmother "never could make good kraut.") Because of this I thought the "Reuben" sounded like a truly disgusting concoction. This is also around the time that I was misinformed, ( Read more... )

Reubens are wonderful, but very unkosher, so I have never really considered them Jewish. (Not that any of the Jewish people I know keep kosher, but still.)

I had always turned my nose up at the Rueben as well, however my husband would eat them morning, noon, and night if he could. When I had one, it was surprisingly good! I still don't like the parts on their own, but together they just fit together well!

I know that there's a Jewish Deli SOMEWHERE in Nashville, but until you find it, I actually do feel that you should try Noshville's Reuben. It's one of the safest things you could possibly get there.
Just don't eat more than about one a week unless you're looking to bulk up.

I seemed to remember you saying that the Reuben was one of the "safe foods," which would bring my Noshville experiences up to a solid three-for-three on safe foods (Lox platter, grilled cheese, reuben).

No Salmonella there!

A Reuben seems like it would be absolutely revolting, but this may be yet another case of "shut up and try it."
You'd probably have to get one at a non-Kosher Jewish deli, unless you were willing to substitute soy cheese for the real stuff.

And for the add, I make no statement other than that your layout and my browser aren't getting along too well.

Oh noes, not an add! Eww! :P

Welcome aboard! Some people might say I make my layout that busy so that people have to fess up and admit they read my journal and friend me. I'll never tell, though. ;)

I heart Reubens, and living in blue-collar NW Indiana for two years didn't help my addiction. Gotta say, though, that my own Reubens are better than the ones in the restaurants because I tweak the amounts until perfection.
